Experts say one specific injury can be extremely painful and hard to ignore+One particular sex position has been linked to around half of all cases of a serious injury that can happen during sex if things go wrong.

According to Dr Karan Raj, who shared details in a TikTok video, about 50 percent of penis injuries during sex are connected to this one position alone.

He described it as the ‘most dangerous sex position according to science’, which is not something most people expect to hear. Anyone who feels uneasy about injuries like this might want to pay close attention.

There are many different positions people can choose from, ranging from more traditional ones like missionary to more unusual ones such as the butter churner or the wheelbarrow. Yes, those names are real.

However, Dr Raj explained that even a small mistake in movement during this particular position can lead to serious problems. If ‘there is any erratic thrusting or if the movements of the two parties are not in sync’, things can go wrong very quickly.

Because of that, it is something people may want to think about before getting into the moment, especially if they are not fully aware of the risks involved.

The injury in question is known as a penile fracture. Even though people sometimes joke about it, the human penis does not actually contain a bone, although some animals do have one.

Instead, when the penis is erect, the tissues inside it become firm, and under the wrong conditions, those tissues can tear. That tear is what is referred to as a penile fracture.

Dr Raj explained: “A penile fracture is a tear in the tunica albuginea. This is a rubbery sheath of tissue that allows the penis to enlarge in width and length during an erection.”

If this type of injury occurs, it is usually very noticeable right away. People may hear a ‘popping sound’ or suddenly lose their erection, according to guidance from the Mayo Clinic. It is not something that can be ignored.

Mayo Clinic added: “Left untreated, a penis fracture might result in a curved penis or the permanent inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sex (erectile dysfunction).

The position most often linked to this kind of injury is reverse cowgirl.

It is not difficult to understand why this position carries more risk once you think about how it works.

In this position, a large amount of one partner’s body weight is placed on the penis. At the same time, the person on top cannot see what they are doing, which increases the chance of a misaligned movement that could lead to injury.

Even with these risks, reverse cowgirl is still a popular position for many men. However, it is often reported as one of the less preferred positions among women.

When looking at it more closely, the position tends to favor one partner more than the other.

The person lying down does not have to move much and has a clear view of their partner, while the person on top is doing most of the work.

For the partner on top, the experience can feel less engaging. They are facing away and often looking at their partner’s feet, which can take away from the connection.

Several women have also shared online that the angle in reverse cowgirl does not always feel comfortable or enjoyable for them.

Some have even said that it feels distant and lacks intimacy compared to other positions, which adds another reason why it may not be the best choice for everyone.
